Audi TT Engine types

Audi cars have always been praised by people around the world for being not only for their appearance and handling, but also because of what they have to offer in terms of speed and power. The Audi TT series are probably the best ones in terms of engine performance throughout the years, which is understandable seeing as how they are the closest Audi currently has to sports cars. The Audi TT models have started to come out in 1998, and as you can imagine there have been various technological advancements made since then, especially to the engines.

To start things off, I present to you the most common petrol engine used in Audi Mk1 models, the 1.8T engine. It has a configuration of Inline-4 20v DOHC Turbocharger and a maximum motive power of 190 PS (which is roughly 140 kW) at 5,900 rotations per minute. It has a maximum torque of 250 N•m at 19.50-4,700 rpm. It has been in production since 2006 and is suited for a front-wheel drive.

There is another engine, albeit less common, also used with the Audi Mk1 models, albeit only on the Quattro models. I am referring to the 3.2 V6 quattro engine, with the configuration VR6 24v DOHC. It's maximum motive power is of as much as 250 PS (translated into roughly 184kW) at 6,300 rpm with a maximum torque of 320 N•m at 2500 – 3000 rpm. As mentioned before, it is suited for a four-wheel drive.

But these are the engines for the Mk1 models, and thus it wouldn't hurt to look into the newer, Mk2 engines.

When it comes to Audi TT Mk2 models, the best Audi TT engine currently available is the 2.0 TFSI which has the configuration Inline-4 16v DOHC (of the EA888 type) Turbocharger, Fuel Stratified Injection. It's maximum motive power is of 211 PS (or 155 kW) at 4300 to 6000 rpm, and when it comes to the torque it offers more than 350 N•m at 1600 to 4200. Unlike engines of the previous models, all of the ones available for the Mk2 models allow front-wheel and four-wheel drive.

While the engine mentioned previously is more commonly used, the 2.5 R5 TFSI may very well be the most powerful of all available petrol engines for Audi, having a maximum motive power of 340 PS (or 250kW) at 5400 to 6500 rpm while having a maximum torque of 450 N•m at 1600 to 5300 rpm. It has the Inline-5 20v DOHC (CEPA) Turbocharger, Fuel Stratified Injection configuration.

As you can see, some of the engine models available for Audi TT cars yield a pretty good performance, not to mention the fact that there are many differences in power between the variations of an engine model in order to cater to different budgets. Also, it is worth noting that even though Audi has been known to exclusively make use of petrol engines for their cars, in 2008 they have actually released a diesel engine and are working as of this day towards more economic types of engines.
